Monday Motivation 8/7/2000

Today's Monday Motivation can be summed up in one little phrase:

Determination determines destiny.

Of course, there are other things that help determine where you will wind up. Direction, for example, determines where you are headed. Goals are always important. A plan helps immensely. Time management helps you spend the most time in the best endeavors. Excitement helps you keep on track when the going gets tough. Positive outlook helps you continue to see things as they really are, not as the pessimists of the world would have you see them.

Certainly, there are many things that contribute to success. Timing, courage, habit, networking, and just having the guts to seize upon a chance are all important ingredients in the recipe for successful living. There is no one thing that stands alone.

Keeping all that in mind, though, you need solid determination to succeed.

Throughout history, we've seen a good many people who succeeded, but they are just a small percentage of those people who failed, because they gave up, or even never began.

What difference was there between them and those who succeed? Determination is certainly one of the big things. You can call it persistence. You can call it a passion to excel. You can even call it being stubborn or pigheaded. It's a quality that keeps on moving, even when it's difficult to move, or refuses to move when it's not right.

Being determined is a major reason why people succeed. Think of many of the great leaders in the history of our world. John Adams was determined to see the foundation of the United States, and followed through with it, even against massive odds. Thomas Jefferson, Charles Lindbergh both were determined to see their dreams through. Alexander Graham Bell was determined to see his vision come to fruition. Winston Churchill, against great opposition from without and within, was determined to not let Hitler succeed in the Battle of Britain.

Every day, people who are determined to succeed do so. Every day people are determined to make that sale, to finish that project, to lose weight, become fit. People succeed despite massive odds, just by deciding they won't give up, no matter what. Determine your future. Be determined. Be pigheaded. Don't give in if you're right. Don't give up.
