THE POSITIVE PLACE. SALES MOTIVATION AND PERSONAL GROWTH

Starting anew -- again.

When I lived in Japan for a couple of years, I was interested in seeing people sweeping out the dust from their homes into the street each new year’s eve.. Asking about it, I learned that for many, the tradition of sweeping out their homes on New Year’s Eve was a symbol of figuratively sweeping out the problems of the old year, in order to get ready for the coming of the new year’s promises.

The last few years have been challenging to many of us. The economic problems that afflict the world have been deep and unyielding. Twenty-twelve will still bring challenges -- in America, not the least of which will be a constant barrage of silly presidential debates and the drone of political promises and platitudes. It remains to be seen whether the world’s leaders will find a way to deal with some of these challenges that await us...as Mark Twain observed, nobody is safe while lawmakers are in session.

But no matter whether the politicians and media pundits help or hurt our future, individually we can maintain a positive outlook on the new year -- in fact, since the strength of the nation depends on the strength of its citizens, it is essential that we develop and maintain such an outlook. We should sweep out the pain and trouble of the past.

Each year when we start the new year, we begin with hopes held high and a determination to make this a better year. Many of us find that we soon get bogged down in the dust of past decisions, both right and wrong.

For some of us, the collected total of those decisions weigh us down like an anchor, but for some reason, we choose to not rid ourselves of that collected baggage.

Take this chance to eliminate the collected dust of those bad decisions of the past. The past is gone -- let it go; the old years have vanished -- sweep them away and out of your life.
