THE POSITIVE PLACE. SALES MOTIVATION AND PERSONAL GROWTH
Persist until you succeed
"God grant me the courage not to give up what I think is right even though I think it is hopeless." Chester W. Nimitz
"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal, while others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting at the last moment more vigorous efforts than before." -Polybius
This week's entry is about persisting until you succeed, and never giving up.
What does it mean to succeed? The noted success writer and speaker, Og Mandino, put it this way: "For now you know one of the greatest principles of success; if you persist long enough you will win."
Persistence becomes the ultimate key to success. The Grand Canyon? It was carved by a river that persisted.
If you want to climb a mountain, accomplish a goal, or attain a destination, there are basically only three parts to the equation. One: find your path. Two, follow the path. Three, persist until you succeed.
And that's where most people lose track on the path to success -- they give up, they stop persisting, they stop working toward a goal -- and they leave all their progress, striving, effort, and movement in the past. They do not become a success, because they don't stick with the program long enough for success to dawn. They never finish climbing the mountain, because they turned back somewhere when their feet started to hurt.
What was it that Knute Rockne said? "The team that won't be beat, can't be beat." That extends to each of us, as well. In order for us to lose at the game of life, we have to give up.
Sure, we may have setbacks, and there may be people who are better at some things than we are -- but continuing to strive toward achieving success is our ultimate goal. It may be long in coming, or it may come tomorrow -- but success will never come to us tomorrow if we give up today.
