The start of a new year is a time for reflection. Each year, we are one year older, one year closer to death. Each year, we change a little, hopefully grow a little, hopefully love a lot more.
Each year is a new chance. We have a chance to make a difference in our life, or to ignore the possibility of change, and choose to continue on the way we have been going.
Wally "Famous" Amos said it like this: "If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting." If we don't change where we're headed, we'll eventually wind up where we're going, even if that spot wasn't where we wanted to end up.
A new year is a chance to decide to make it a good year. We can commit to making our lives better. We can decide we're going to live life a bit more fully. We can decide to live with passion, joy, and love. We can decide we're going to greet each day with a smile on our face, and decide, at the end of the day, what we have learned from the events that transpired. When New Year's Eve comes around at the end of this year, we should be able to look back on the year that has transpired, and examine our performance with compassionate judgment.
We should live each year as if it is a good one. No matter the downturns of the stock market, the vagaries of the employment rate, or the height skirts reach, we can still have a good year. We can do more than that -- we can have a great one.
Each year brings with it its own interesting moments. Each year has its triumphs, its downturns, its challenges, and its growth. Each year has the opportunity to be the best year in our life so far, if we let it be, and fully cultivate it so it will be.
I don't know about you, but I can't afford a bad year. I've had too many of them. When New Year's Eve wanders around, as it always does, I want to look back on the year and pronounce it a great one. I want to mark it down as a year of growth. Time will tell if I am right. Time will tell if I have learned enough from all of the other years in my life to make this year a great one.
Decide today. Make this year a great year.
Do it for yourself.
