A time of growth

In the spring of each year, new growth springs up in most parts of the world. As the summer goes on, that growth continues, and as autumn and winter arrive, the growth may slow down or subside.

But as human beings, we do not have such a seasonal pattern. We can grow anytime of the year – not just when it’s warm and sunny. We can grow, even on the darkest of days or nights.

But unlike the plants, which get their energy to grow from the sun, as persons, we must gain our personal growth from inside ourselves.

Most of us get into a pattern of sorts – there are various times of the year where we push, grow, and change – and then other times of the year where we seem to remain on cruise control – never really changing a lot, just taking life as it comes.

For many of us, challenges such as health issues, personal crisis, or family changes spur our growth. Others are motivated by outside influences – the coming of the school season, the arrival of a new year, or a quota set by an anxious boss.

If we’re ever going to live up to our fullest abilities, though, we have to form a way to foster continuous growth and improvement in our lives. Unlike plants, which often have a genetically-programmed size in their future, and will grow no higher or no bigger, we can determine the extent we will allow our lives to improve.

Our lives are a chance to make a difference – and as voyagers here on planet Earth, we all should be trying to live our opportunities to their fullest. We owe it to ourselves, our families, our companies, and the world around us. We should take a few chances, make a few changes, set out on a better road, and put our make our lives all they can possibly become.

It’s common today to settle for the bare minimum of what we need to do – but if we truly wish to become all we can be, each day must be a time of growth, whether it’s spring, summer, winter, or fall.
