A good idea isn't good enough
Well, I'm to blame for this week's topic.
Last week, I finished the week's Monday Morning Motivation, just the same as I have for the last seven-and-a-half years. I wrote it out, did the web programming, polished it all up.
But I apparently didn't upload it.
I've uploaded it now, and you can read it on our site – but it just goes to prove one of life's great laws: merely having a good idea just isn't good enough.
You see, there are millions of great ideas out there – some of them revolutionary, I'm sure. In the minds of the billions of people on this planet, there are likely countless inventions, meaningful contributions, great breakthroughs. There are also harebrained ideas, clunkers of a concept, and useless drivel that should never see the light of day.
But whether those ideas are good or bad, chances are you'll never see them, for in order for these ideas to blossom, you've got to do something with them.
I don't ever suggest that my weekly writings are great ideas, but if these writings, and your ideas, as well, never see the light of day, then they're worthless – less than worthless, if that were possible, because if they had the potential to be revolutionary, then you owe it to society to share them.
Let's compare your great ideas to electricity. Electricity sits in your line, ready to light up the world – but in order to use it, you've got to make a connection – turn on the switch, plug in the plug, start up the motor. In order, you have to give the electricity a chance to serve you – and others.
Great ideas are like that. They can serve others, light up the world, make a difference – but if you leave those ideas unexpressed, then you'll never even light up a dim bulb.
